BBC Archive - Men, Women and Clothes - part 1

My attention has just been drawn to these lovely vintage films from the BBC archive, first shown in 1957 these films were the BBC's first colour series. They are worth watching just for their loveliness in their own right even before you take in  to account the subject matter of fashion.

The first film the only I have watched so far is great, showing us how the fashion of the 1900's evolved, with some great original clothes all modelled.

How Fashions come and go

In the first programme of this fascinating series, the marvellous Doris Langley Moore looks at fashion evolution and sources of inspiration. Using authentic period costumes modelled by some familiar faces, she addresses issues such as why cloaks resembled lampshades in the 19th century and how bustles evolved from crinolines.
